OBITUARY
Eldred C. Zimmerman
 




                                            Mr. Eldred Christ Zimmerman of Hartford, Wisconsin, surrounded by family                                              peacefully entered the gates of heaven into new life on January 21, 2018.                                              He was born April 21, 1929 in Cold Spring, Minnesota to Elizabeth Helen                                              Ludwig and Michael Florian Zimmerman.  

Elly is survived by the love of his life, Wife; Marina Doris Zimmerman, Son; Jeffrey Lee Zimmerman, spouse (Patricia), Daughter; Deborah Ann Steele spouse (Jim ), Son; Timothy Edward Zimmerman, Grandchildren; Justin Travis Zimmerman, Nicole Azel Zimmerman, Steven John Zimmerman and great grandchildren; Emily, Adriana, Hunter, Siblings; Burgetta Nistler, Elmer Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by his parents; Michael and Elizabeth (Ludwig), Siblings; Florence Molitor, Leander Zimmerman, Alvina Zimmerman, Alfred Zimmerman, Lucille Theis, Hildegard Molitor, Raymond Zimmerman

In (1946-1951) Elly worked as a laborer for his brother in-law, Leonard Nistler until he joined the service.  He was a proud military veteran and served his country in the U.S. Navy, Korean Service on September 28, 1951 to June 30, 1955 with an honorable mention. During his leave of absence Elly went home and met Marina Larson. 

Elly’s favorite story: “Al’s Café, Eden Valley on April Fool’s Day 1954…The Day He Met Marina”, Marina was the love of his life, wedding bells rang on July 17, 1954, with a marriage of 63 years. Elly and his bride danced to his favorite song, “Blue Skirt Waltz”. 

After being discharged from the service, Elly worked at Bauer Construction as a truck driver. In 1958, Elly and his brother Elmer started their own company, “Zimmerman Brother’s Painting”, retiring in 2008.

Elly enjoyed traveling with friends and family. He also looked forward to attending Zimmerman Days Family Reunion in Minnesota, and created many memories with loved ones. He was an avid euchre player, where he collected many coins from many family members. He enjoyed mowing his yard, gardening, fishing, building bird houses for family and friends and puzzles in the winter. 

He served at The American Legion Post One as a Second Vice Commander. In 2015 he was blessed to experience the Honor’s Flight with his son Jeff and his brother Elmer. Elly and Marina have been active member of the Saint Clare Catholic Church of North Lake, WI for years.

Elly had an amazing spirit that was contagious. We will miss his stories, laughter, and his sense of humor. He has touched many lives in so many ways, he will be greatly missed. 

Elly’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Evert-Luko Funeral Home, 170 Warren Ave. Hartland, WI 53029.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the Memorial Service at 12:00 PM including full Military Honors.  Final rest will be in St. Clare Cemetery, North Lake, WI.

In lieu of flowers memorials ma be made to AngelsGrace Hospice or the charity of donor's choice.
