James P. Merchant of Hartland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at the age of 65.
Jim received his BA and MA from UW Madison and worked as a special education teacher for 35 years retiring from Kettle Moraine High School in 2007. During his brief years of retirement Jim traveled the world including 6 continents in 4 years. He enjoyed camping, hiking, reading, swimming and summers at Beaver Lake. He was a former cub scout leader, soccer coach and president of the teacher’s union at Kettle Moraine High School.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 37 years Laura, his children Daniel (Francesca), Alice and Ted (Lydia), and his granddaughter Gabriela. He is further survived by his brothers Bruce and Mike (Mary), his sister Cele (Dick) Lutz, sister-in-law Jean Merchant, 12 nieces and nephews, 26 great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Carroll and Wilma Merchant, his brother John and his sister-in-law Jodi.
A Visitation will be held at the Evert-Luko Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 27 from 1:00 PM until a Funeral Service at 3:00 PM. Followed by a reception at Max Meier’s Hartland Inn. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association appreciated.
