Don Foley, known to many as “Doc”, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old.
Don was born in Prescott, the tenth child of John and Agnes Foley. He grew up in a farming community, where at an early age decided he wanted to pursue a different life and left for college at the age of 16. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and graduated from Marquette University - School of Dentistry, where he taught for several years prior to establishing his dental practice in Sussex, WI.
Don was passionate about education and served on the school boards for Arrowhead High School and Merton Elementary for many years. He also served on the Merton Village Board well past his retirement and was especially proud of the village and parks that were developed and improved during his tenure.
Doc loved the outdoors. When he wasn’t serving his patients and community, you could find him tending to a large garden, which came in handy feeding his seven kids. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and birdwatcher only matched by his passion for the Green Bay Packers, Brewers and Marquette basketball.
You could always find Don with a smile on his face and conversation to be shared. He will be missed by many. He is preceded in death by Myra Foley (nee Dilley) and survived by his children Mike (Jennifer) Foley, Mary (Mark) Kafer, Mark Foley, Tom Foley, John Foley, David (Christine)Foley, and Ann (Anthony) McGee. Grandchildren include James (Lacey) Kafer, Grace and Rachel Kafer, Jack and Ella Foley, and Connor and Elsa Foley.
The family would especially like to thank the many caregivers for the kind
and compassionate support provided to Don.
A celebration of Don's life will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish (Hwy 83/North Lake). Visitation 2 PM until the Memorial Mass at 4 PM followed by a reception.
